How long has the Ashland Strawberry Faire been around?
Since 1982 — that’s over 30 years of community and family fun! And every year the Faire continues to grow as we add new events, performances, and cultivate the best vendors we can find to celebrate the Strawberry Harvest. Since that time the Faire has given over $100,000 and lots of memories to our community.
What happens if it RAINS the day of the Faire or is OVER 100 degrees?
We all still have fun! Dress appropriately and bring what you need to stay comfortable and hydrated. There are no vendor refunds due to weather.
Where are the TROLLEY STOPS?
We have 2 trolleys: One covers the EAST side (pick up at Hanover County School Board off Berkley Street and the Community Services Center off Rt 1). The another covers the WEST side (pick up at St. Ann’s Church off Snead Street and Henry Clay Elementary School off James Street).
How large is the Faire?
There have been estimates of 20 – 30 and even 40 thousand people who attend the Strawberry Faire each year. There are more than 300 booths offering outstanding food, quality arts and crafts, unique antiques, and information about the wonderful businesses and non-profit organizations in Hanover County.
What kinds of vendors come to the Faire?
For many years, the vendors have been made up of about 60% arts and crafts, 15% non-profit groups, 15% businesses, and 10% other (politicians, etc.)
What kind of electric hook ups are available?
Hook up for electricity is available only in the Food Vendor area. Silent generators are allowed only in that area with permission.
Will I be able to choose my booth location?
There is a space on the vendor application to request booth space. Before the April 15th deadline, our goal is to match all requests, and we are able to comply more than 90%. After April we try to match areas and placement, but cannot guarantee spaces. We want vendors to be as successful as possible and make every attempt to put them where it is best for them.
I’m not a Hanover Business — why can’t participate in the Faire?
The Faire was started for arts & crafts and non-profits. Businesses have been added over the years ,and in 2011 they were separated and allowed to sell to help promote local and small businesses. There is not enough space to accommodate businesses much farther than Hanover County.
My restaurant would like to have a booth — why do we have to team up with a non-profit?
This Faire was created for non-profit groups to have a venue for fund raising. As the crowds got larger, we added professional vendors, while still keeping with our mission. Therefore, for this event, all professional food vendors are required to work with a non-profit. The non-profit provides labor for the vendor, and the vendor supports the non-profit with a percentage of the profits.
Are dogs allowed at the Faire?
Yes, but please be nice to your dog. Keep in mind – leash laws, weather, walking on hot blacktop, water, parking off campus, crowds of people, and other dogs. We like dogs so much… you can come and adopt one!
