The Faire is CANCELLED.  Now what?

We sincerely hope this finds you and yours healthy and safe. As is the case with everyone at this moment, the status of the Ashland Strawberry Faire has continued to evolve as updates from government and health organizations help us navigate the realities of ensuring that our communities remain as safe as possible.

The Ashland Strawberry Faire Committee has, based on predictions from officials and Statewide closing of schools through June 13th, decided we have to CANCEL this year’s Faire on June 6, 2020. It was a hard decision and creates many issues for the Faire.

There are, of course, expenses associated; maintaining fees for a website, telephone, storage, legal, tax, and others are costs which we must pay even when we don’t have a Faire. As to many events this is new to us; the Faire has never been canceled since its beginning in 1982.

As we are a non-profit organization, we carry little funding over at the end of each calendar year. Our funds go to help local non-profit agencies and for local scholarships. We are very disappointed that we cannot help the many non-profits this year with exposure and/or fundraising.

We are struggling to provide the scholarships we are committed to–nine scholarships to Hanover County public high school seniors, and one scholarship to a Randolph Macon College student. We are relying mainly on donations from sponsors (thanks to Village Bank and Ashland Physical Therapy!), committee members, and our vendors to maintain this commitment.

The Faire has a “no refund policy” as stated on our website, but in these extraordinary times, the board is offering the following options for vendors who have already committed to this year’s Faire, as noted below:

  1. Roll over the fees paid and reserve your spot for the June 12, 2021 Faire. Choosing this option would assure your booth space without additional costs next year.
  2. Request a refund of your fees paid. You would receive your payment in full, minus a $25.00 administrative fee that covers the behind-the scene costs of running the Faire. *
  3. Donate all OR a portion of your application fee to help support our scholarship program.

Refunds will be processed through PayPal, unless there are extenuating circumstances.

To help us manage this large administrative task, we prefer that you indicate your preference through a QUICK SURVEY. This will prevent the potential confusion of hundreds of emails in our inbox.
